Why do cats stare?
What does it mean when one cat stares at another cat?
Staring is a form of aggression between cats. Typically, a confident cat will stare at another cat it is trying to intimidate. If the second cat is less confident, they will often move to a different location or walk around the staring cat. If the second cat is confident, or defending its territory, it may start growling or put its ears back, and its hair may stand up. Either cat may then launch towards the other and fight. The lesson to us here, is that in a multi-cat household, sometimes the initial aggressor starts the fight without saying a word!
